The room on move-in day. My canvas, as I saw it.
Buying wood at the home depot. Nothing gets me going like the smell of fresh lumber.
Painting the wood outside in the backyard. Very therapeutic.
Mounting the wood onto the crown moulding. This is actually only as far as I had thought ahead initially. After a couple weeks I wondered what it might look like to wrap the beams in vine…
Wrapping the beams in artificial vine. Believe it or not, you can buy big bags of this stuff on Amazon for pretty cheap.
Finished wrapping the beams and added a few trees. Huge improvement.
Came across this gem on Craigslist after a few weeks of searching. It’s missing a few of the crystals, but no one really notices.
Built an A-frame above the trellis to hold the chandelier. The chandelier weighs enough to rip the plaster right out of the ceiling, so this was a must.
Mounting the chandelier. Glass shimmers like a firework in this kind of lighting. The chandelier hangs at eye level, and I smash my face into it at least once a week.
At this point I experimented with some different lighting. The blue backlight looked cool, but it wasn’t the vibe I was going for, so it was removed. This looks more like a Vegas nightclub, while I was trying for an Italian villa kind of look.
Beginning the construction of the mirror wall. My old workplace had a workshop that they let me use for personal projects outside of normal work hours.
Painting the mirror wall in the back yard.
The fully installed mirror wall. This was the most expensive part of the build, but contributes the most visually to the room by effectively doubling the visual space.
Hanging foliage panels on the opposite wall.
Finished hanging the panels and hung net lighting over the top.
Voila! The finished jungle room in all it’s glory.
